1 Dear Theophilus: Many have done their best to write a report of the things that have taken place among us.
2 They wrote what we have been told by those who saw these things from the beginning and proclaimed the message.
3 And so, your Excellency, because I have carefully studied all these matters from their beginning, I thought it good to write an orderly account for you.

l8 Zechariah said to the angel; "How shall I know if this is so? I am an old man and my wife also is old."

20 But you have not believed my message, which will come true at the right time. Because you have not believed you will be unable to speak; you will remain silent until the day my promise to you comes true."
20 Pero ahora, como no creíste lo que te dije, vas a quedar mudo y no podrás hablar hasta que nazca tu hijo. Esto se cumplirá a su debido tiempo.

2l In the meantime the people were waiting for Zechariah, wondering why he was spending such a long time in the temple.

28 The angel came to her and said, "Peace be with you! The Lord is with you, and has greatly blessed you!"

32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High God. The Lord God will make him a king, as his ancestor David was,

35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come on you, and God's power will rest upon you.

38 "I am the Lord's servant" said Mary; "may it happen to me as you have said." And the angel left her.

63 Zechariah asked for a writing pad and wrote, "His name is John." How surprised they all were!

3 Hinan Juanqa Jordán mayu tukuy chimpapurantinta purirqan:- Huchaykichista saqepuspa Diosman kutirikuychis, hinaspa bautizachikuychis huchaykichis pampachasqa kananpaq, nispa.
3 He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
3 Y él vino por toda la tierra al rededor del Jordán predicando el bautismo del arrepentimiento para la remisión de pecados;
4 Profeta Isaiasmi qelqarqan: Ch'inneqpin huk kunka waqyakun: ¡Allichaychis Señor Diospa ñanninta! ¡Cheqanyachiychis purinankunata!
4 As is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: "A voice of one calling in the desert, `Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.

5 Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth.
5 Todo valle se henchirá, Y bajaráse todo monte y collado; Y los caminos torcidos serán enderezados, Y los caminos ásperos allanados;
6 Tukuy runataq Diospa kachamusqan qespichiqta rikunqa, nispan, nispa.
6 And all mankind will see God's salvation.'"
6 Y verá toda carne la salvación de Dios.
7 Askha runakunan Juanwan bautizachikunanpaq rirqan, hinan Juanqa paykunata nirqan:- ¡Yaw runakuna, mach'aqway hinan kankichis! ¿Pin willarqasunkichis Diospa kachamunan ñak'ariymanta ayqeyta?
7 John said to the crowds coming out to be baptized by him, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
7 Y decía á las gentes que salían para ser bautizadas de él: ¡Oh generación de víboras, quién os enseñó á huir de la ira que vendrá?
8 Diosman kutirikuspaykichis kawsayniykichis t'ikrasqa kasqanta rikuchikuychis, amataq niychischu: Abrahampa mirayninmi kayku, nispaqa. Ñoqaqa niykichismi Diosqa kay rumikunamantapas atinmi Abrahampa wawankunata hatarichiyta.
8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, `We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
8 Haced, pues, frutos dignos de arrepentimiento, y no comencéis á decir en vosotros mismos: Tenemos á Abraham por padre: porque os digo que puede Dios, aun de estas piedras, levantar hijos á Abraham.
9 Sach'a wit'uqqa wit'unan patapiñan kashan. Chaymi tukuy mana allin ruruq sach'aqa wit'usqa kaspa ninaman wikch'uykusqa kanqa, nispa.
9 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire."
9 Y ya también el hacha está puesta á la raíz de los árboles: todo árbol pues que no hace buen fruto, es cortado, y echado en el fuego.
10 Chaymi runakunaqa Juanta tapurqanku:- Chay hinaqa, ¿imatan ruwasaqku? nispa.
10 "What should we do then?" the crowd asked.
10 Y las gentes le preguntaban, diciendo: ¿Pues qué haremos?
11 Paytaq paykunata nirqan:- Iskay p'achayoqqa mana p'achayoqman hukninta qochun, mikhunayoqpas chay hinallatataq ruwachun, nispa.
11 John answered, "The man with two tunics should share with him who has none, and the one who has food should do the same."
11 Y respondiendo, les dijo: El que tiene dos túnicas, dé al que no tiene; y el que tiene qué comer, haga lo mismo.
12 Contribución cobraqkunapas hamullarqankutaq bautizachikuyta munaspa, hinaspan payta nirqanku:- Yachachikuq, ¿imatan ruwasaqku? nispa.
12 Tax collectors also came to be baptized. "Teacher," they asked, "what should we do?"
12 Y vinieron también publicanos para ser bautizados, y le dijeron: Maestro, ¿qué haremos?
13 Juantaq paykunata nirqan:- Kamachisqaman hinalla cobraychis, ama astawanqa cobraychischu, nispa.
13 "Don't collect any more than you are required to," he told them.
13 Y él les dijo: No exijáis más de lo que os está ordenado.

14 Then some soldiers asked him, "And what should we do?" He replied, "Don't extort money and don't accuse people falsely--be content with your pay."
14 Y le preguntaron también los soldados, diciendo: Y nosotros, ¿qué haremos? Y les dice: No hagáis extorsión á nadie, ni calumniéis; y contentaos con vuestras pagas.
15 Runakunaqa makillañan suyasharqanku, chaymi Juanmanta sonqollankupi yuyaykurqanku: Icha, ¿paychu Diospa Akllasqan Cristoqa kanman? nispa.
15 The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John might possibly be the Christ.
15 Y estando el pueblo esperando, y pensando todos de Juan en sus corazones, si él fuese el Cristo,

16 John answered them all, "I baptize you with water. But one more powerful than I will come, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
16 Respondió Juan, diciendo á todos: Yo, á la verdad, os bautizo en agua; mas viene quien es más poderoso que yo, de quien no soy digno de desatar la correa de sus zapatos: él os bautizará en Espíritu Santo y fuego;

17 His winnowing fork is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."
17 Cuyo bieldo está en su mano, y limpiará su era, y juntará el trigo en su alfolí, y la paja quemará en fuego que nunca se apagará.

18 And with many other words John exhorted the people and preached the good news to them.

19 But when John rebuked Herod the tetrarch because of Herodias, his brother's wife, and all the other evil things he had done,

21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened
